Karen Schwartz, Trainer

Karen grew up in New Jersey spending all her free time around a horse barn with horses, many dogs, and cats. She began training and competing with horses in high school. Karen got the dog training bug when she adopted her dog Darwin, who was described as “having enough energy to light up a town!” Dog training classes got them on their way and she became a dog training instructor combining her love of the outdoors, and working with animals and their humans. Karen is a graduate of the Marin Humane Society’s Canine Behavior Academy I and II. Ali Vorhies, Trainer

15 years ago, Ali Vorhies, a lifelong dog and cat owner, began training her own Portuguese Water Dog in agility, rally obedience, and water work, a specialty of the PWDs. She and her dog titled in all of these performance sports. In 2012, she completed the Marin Humane Society’s Canine Behavior Academy and became inspired to learn more about dog behavior and training. She began volunteering as an assistant in the Behavior & Training and Dog Evaluation departments. Ali now has been a dog training instructor or assistant for more than 4 years at a dog training facility in Petaluma and for the Marin Humane Society and Sonoma Humane Society. Karen Gulmon, Trainer

Karen was born with the “I love animals” gene. Her interest in animal behavior, especially dogs and horses, led her to study and work with knowledgeable trainers. She is a graduate of the MHS Canine Behavior Academy I and II and continues to increase her knowledge of animal behavior and training by attending seminars, workshops, and classes. She has trained and shown Ibizan Hounds and Arabian horses for many years. Karen currently teaches a variety of classes, including Companion Dog 1 and 2. She also teaches classes for puppies, small dogs, and scenting classes for the new sport of Nosework.
