The Academy of Dog Instructor position requires excellent personal mechanics in “Positive Reinforcement Dog Training” in addition to superlative customer service skills and must also be capable of teaching group “companion dog” training classes from beginning through advanced levels at both Santa Rosa and Healdsburg shelter locations.
This person will teach specialty classes, including Kinderpuppy, Recall, Loose Leash Walking and other classes that meet the needs and interests of the public and will conduct workshops that focus on dog-training skill development. This individual is also responsible for accomplishing department goals, working collaboratively with internal and external HSSC stakeholders and supporting the mission, goals and philosophy of HSSC

Animal services staff are charged with the care of animals in HSSC’s shelters including cleanliness, kindness and compassion for homeless animals. This is a diverse position encompassing all aspects of animal care, adoptions and customer services. This is an entry level position that can lead to career growth in the areas of customer services, veterinary care and vaccinations, and supporting animal behavior. This position is the foundational building block for individuals motivated to learn animal welfare from the ground up and improve the lives of animals while serving our community.
Salary Range: $19 – $22 per hour DOE.

The Client and Patient Care Representative (CPR) provides excellent phone and in-person customer service at the Community Veterinary Clinic, representing the Humane Society of Sonoma County. This public-facing, low-cost clinic serves qualifying families with pets needing urgent medical or surgical care. The CPR greets clients, answers phones, triages patients, schedules appointments, communicates with veterinarians, enters client and patient information, prepares invoices and discharge paperwork, processes payments, and manages medical records.

The Kitten Care Coordinator is responsible for managing the flow, placement and return of foster kittens as well as nurturing and educating the volunteer foster caregivers.
This role will be focused primarily on neonate kittens seeking emergency foster care. The Kitten Care Coordinator will be responsible for developing training materials to educate volunteers, ensuring necessary supplies are sent home with foster volunteers, answering questions about kittens’ well-being, and providing preventive medical care throughout the foster assignment.

The Shelter Behavior Specialist is responsible for providing hands-on behavioral support to the shelter population. This role focuses on conducting behavior assessments, reassessments, and creating and implementing behavioral interventions to ensure the well-being and adoptability of shelter animals.
While the primary focus is on animal behavior, the specialist also provides training and guidance to staff and volunteers as needed to support safe and humane animal handling. Additionally, this position plays a key role in supporting adoption and foster efforts by providing consultations and writing behavior recommendations.
