Love Animals? Would you like to spend your day surrounded by wagging tails and soft purrs? The Humane Society of Sonoma County (HSSC) is seeking an animal loving, dynamic and enthusiastic full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our medical team.

This position plays a vital role in supporting our talented medical professionals and is also responsible for providing high quality, humane animal care while maintaining the very highest of standards in medical care.

The Veterinary Assistant ensures all shelter animals and public spay/neuter patients, as well as those coming through our Community Veterinary Clinic, are provided the best possible care and attention while at the Humane Society of Sonoma County.

Some of the responsibilities include animal care, housing, cleaning, feeding, providing treatments and medications, dog walking, occasional bathing & grooming, and record keeping. This position will also assist other Veterinary Assistants and Technicians with surgery setup and breakdown, end of day cleaning and restocking, and discharge of surgery patients.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum two years’ experience working in a veterinary practice and an exceptionally mature and team spirited, hard-working attitude.

Under the supervision of the Director of Shelter Initiatives, the Volunteer Services Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, and retaining volunteers who support the mission of the Humane Society of Sonoma County and deliver assistance in all aspects of HSSC’s shelter operations including Spay/Neuter, Outreach, Adoptions, Animal Care and Handling, Enrichment, Foster, as well as special groups, community services, and event support.

HSSC’s volunteer program has approximately 600 active volunteers and 20 departments in which to volunteer. Coordinating volunteers and Volunteer Services includes providing volunteer resources where staff support is needed to match the growth and evolution of the shelter at both Santa Rosa campus and Healdsburg center.

Work environment: Office environment. Usually quiet, with some exposure to moderate noise levels (such as barking dogs, ringing phones).

This is a full-time 40 hour per week non-exempt position.

Salary Range:  $19.00-$23.00 per hour DOE.

The Academy of Dog Instructor position requires excellent personal mechanics in “Positive Reinforcement Dog Training” in addition to superlative customer service skills and must also be capable of teaching group “companion dog” training classes from beginning through advanced levels at both Santa Rosa and Healdsburg shelter locations.

This person will teach specialty classes, including Kinderpuppy, Recall, Loose Leash Walking and other classes that meet the needs and interests of the public and will conduct workshops that focus on dog-training skill development. This individual is also responsible for accomplishing department goals, working collaboratively with internal and external HSSC stakeholders and supporting the mission, goals and philosophy of HSSC

Client and Patient Care Representative for Community Veterinary Clinic 

Are you passionate and dedicated about keeping people and companion animals together for a lifetime of love? Are you a fluent bilingual English/Spanish animal lover? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment that provides excellent customer service while covered in animal hair? The Humane Society of Sonoma County is excited to offer the Client and Patient Care Representative position in our Community Veterinary Clinic (CVC) located on the Santa Rosa campus.

This is a full-time position responsible for greeting clients, answering phones, working with triaging patients, scheduling appointments, communicating with DVMs, entering client, patient and financial data into the computer, generating invoices and explaining invoice information to clients. In addition this position processes payments and manages the retrieval and storage of medical records.

The HSSC DVM  will be responsible for providing high-quality medical and surgical care to our patients by implementing standards of animal care, and coordinating and managing treatments for animals in the care of the Humane Society of Sonoma County and through HSSC’s Community Veterinary Clinic.

Medical cases are both outpatient and inpatient with the majority being dogs and cats, and a small percentage of small mammals or other species.

Clinical responsibilities are primarily in our public-facing Community Veterinary Clinic (CVC) but also includes participation in our public Spay/Neuter program and our Shelter Medicine program.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited college or university and one year of professional veterinary medical experience.
  • Possession of a current license to practice veterinary medicine in California.
  • Experience working in shelter medicine and a passion for community medicine and access to care preferred.

SALARY RANGE:  $100,000 – $120,000 annually
